Corrections
A correction that lives only on a corrections page is not a correction. When a record changes materially, the notice appears on the record itself, permanently, alongside the date and the reason.
Reporting an error
Tell us what the record says, what the underlying document says, and where the document can be read. Sourced reports are actioned fastest because they are checkable.
Error versus pressure
We distinguish two things that are often conflated. If a record is inaccurate, we correct it and say so. If a record is accurate and someone would prefer it not exist, that is not a correction, and we record the request rather than quietly removing the page.
Both outcomes are published. A platform that silently retracts under pressure has no credibility left to offer the next reader.
Withdrawal
A withdrawn record returns HTTP 410 at its original address, with a short public notice, and is removed from the sitemap, the feed, and the machine-readable endpoints. The withdrawal itself is logged here.
Right of reply
If you are named in a record, you may submit a response. We will record it on the record itself.
